Hospice Care Team
Doctor
Each of our patients are under the care of our team doctor. While a patient’s primary care physician may choose to continue to care for the patient, this will be done in partnership with the hospice doctor. Our doctor is a crucial leader on our interdisciplinary hospice team. They play a crucial role in providing comprehensive end-of-life care. Their responsibilities include:
- Medical Oversight: The doctor oversees the medical aspects of a patient’s care, including pain management and symptom control, ensuring the patient’s comfort and quality of life are prioritized.
- Collaboration: They collaborate closely with other team members, such as nurses, social workers, spiritual care providers, and therapists, to develop and implement a holistic care plan tailored to the patient’s needs and preferences.
- Expertise and Guidance: Doctors offer their medical expertise to guide decisions about care and treatment options. They help patients and families understand the nature of illness and prognosis, and support them in making informed decisions.
- Communication: They facilitate effective communication between the team, patients, and families, ensuring that the care provided aligns with the patient’s goals and values.
- Ethical Guidance: In situations involving complex medical and ethical decisions, the doctor provides guidance, respecting the patient’s autonomy and the ethical principles of palliative care.
Overall, the doctor’s role is integral to ensuring that the patient receives compassionate, comprehensive care that addresses not only physical symptoms but also emotional, social, and spiritual needs at the end of life.
